James Tysome was the invited guest lecturer at Endoscopic sinus, Eustachian tube and ear course the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA from 7-9 May 2018. 92 delegates from 19 countries attended the course with Mr Tysome presenting his research around redefining Eustachian tube dysfunction and how to measure it. He also taught delegates how to perform balloon dilatation of the Eustachian tube in laboratory sessions.

Balloon dilatation of the Eustachian tube introduced for Eustachian tube dysfunction, September 2015
James Tysome introduces a new treatment for Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD) for self-pay patients. The inability to equalize pressure in the middle ear is present in 1% of adults and is known as ETD. The most common symptoms are a feeling of full or blocked ears, popping, clicking or discomfort. Until recently, we have not been able to offer patients any effective treatment for this frustrating problem. Balloon dilatation of the Eustachian tube is a promising treatment with positive improvement reported in 70-88% of patients.
